The US State Department maintains a website designed to alert Americans who are planning planning travel about conditions in countries around the world. Countries are rated on a scale of 1 to 4, where 1 is the safest. These are the rankings of the nations of South America as updated in July 2023.
Note: This map was based on the information as of a point in time. Although I did update the original October 2022 version, which
had Peru shown as Level 3, this map is posted as an example of vector mapping in D3 and is not intended to be a source for
travel information. It is NOT connected to any live feed of the
data, nor do I intend to maintain it to keep the information up to date. Please check the State Department website for
